Platon Alexiades
Hello, Several sources claim that on 31.01.1941 the destroyer Francesco Stocco struck a mine laid by the British submarine HMS Rorqual and was cut in two but both parts were towed to Fiume where she was repaired. The information can be found in Wikipedia, uboat.net, ASA and others. I do not seem to find any confirmation of this information. As far as I know Stocco was damaged in a collision with Marin Sanudo in Bari harbour on 23.12.1940 and lost part of her bows but I have found no evidence of this "mining" and she was not at sea on 31.01.1941. Am I missing something? Can anyone find out what is the origin of this error (if it is indeed an error). I have been asked by uboat.net to check the HMS Rorqual page for errors and missing information and this "fact" caught my attention. The submarine page should be updated in about two weeks. Many thanks, Platon
