sandokan
Salve a tutti.Facendo seguito a quanto discusso riguardo il sommergible Guglielmo Marconi, l'amico Carlos Guerreiro mi scrive alcune informazioni e richieste d'indagine su eventuali azioni italiane nel riguardo naviglio portoghese.Andando la faccenda oltre l'interesse del solo somm.Marconi, ho ritenuto dover iniziare un nuovo thread.Ecco quanto Carlos scrive: "Hi Tiberio, At the moment I’m collecting material to write a book about the Portuguese navies during WWII. Although neutral, the Portuguese merchant, the fishing and the military fleet’s where involved in different aspects of the war. More than 1500 persons were saved by Portuguese boats and the merchant fleet lost 12 ships for U-boats, Regia Marina and Royal Navy submarines and airplanes. In the last months I have been in searching in the Portuguese Naval Archives trying to rebuilt at least some of the stories. In relations with the Regia Marina submarines I’m interested in the report about the sinking of the Exportador and also in another interesting story that I belive is related with one italian submarin. On December 27, 1940 at 5.30 hours in the morning one ship from Panama, the BONITA, was nearing Ponta Delgada Harbour when he was surprised by one “Large Submarine” that sent some morse signal asking for identification. They were doing I when the submarine made a canon shot and trhe ship just out the machines on full speed and went into the harbour. Two torpedoes were shot. One exploded against a wall and the other entered the harbour. There was one explosion that caused some fear and also small destruction. The back part of the on ed by the italian subs… Could there e of the torpedoes was recovered and it was a Whithead one, and I know that those were us be any chance of locating the sub responsible for this action? If I can help you in any way please let me know… Best regards Carlos Guerreiro " Cordialità, Tiberio
