Platon Alexiades
Thank you Luiz. Platino was in Ajaccio on two occasions: 1. 1-18 May 1943 2. 25 June - 10 July 1943. There is another submarine in the foreground of Marco's photo (we barely see the conning tower and the deck gun). It might be interesting to try to identify it. Other submarines at Ajaccio during the stay of Platino: Diaspro (7 April-2 May 1943), Benedetto Brin (18-29 May 1943), Velella (25 June-5 July 1943), Diaspro (6-10 July 1943). I would think this is probably Diaspro but perhaps someone has a better suggestion? Platon
Napy
That's a fantastic research!!! Thanks @Luiz cor the harbour identification and @Platon Alexiades for all the data provided. Platon I'm agree with you, the other boat must be DIASPRO......and seeing the dates you posted, the period is probably the beginning of July because in may they were together only less than 2 days Fantastic Marco
Napy
Platon, do you maybe have the time of arrival in Ajaccio of PLATINO on 1st May and departure of DIASPRO on 2nd May to see if is possible the photo was shot in May or July? Thanks Marco
Platon Alexiades
Hi Marco, Platino arrived at Ajaccio at 1407/1 May. Diaspro sailed from Ajaccio at 2310/2 May. So 1st or 2nd May are quite possible. Best regards, Platon
Luiz
