Darius
Hi friends,I saw in the War Diary of the Comando Supremo for 30.11./01.12.1942 the passage, which is accounting for a success of HMS/M URSULA:DIARIO STORICO DEL COMANDO SUPREMO VOL VIII TOMO1 - PARTE TERZA, page 930:https://issuu.com/rivista.militare1/docs/diario-vol-viii-tomo3-testo/48It states the vessel sunk was GENA.In the Allied Submarine Attacks Database and uboat.net V.135 / TOGO is gives as the vessel sunk.Is there any connection between this two names? https://www.rnsubmusfriends.org.uk/hezlet/volume1/chapter16.htm https://www.uboat.net/allies/warships/ship/3386.html Thank you Darius
Platon Alexiades
Hello Darius, Togo was actually Gena 3. Gena 3 referring to the position she occupied as part of the Vigilanza Foranea (local patrol) in the the zone Genoa - La Spezia and thus not really the name of the boat. Best regards, Platon Francesco De Domenico
Francesco De Domenico
Regards, Darius. TOGO was a motor-schooner, a cargo brigantino-goletta of 105 or 108 grt, built as TOGO in 1905 by Francesco Terrizzano at Oneglia, first owner Carlo Polacci & C. of Forte dei Marmi, in the '20s MARIA T. for Giuseppe Bongiardino & C. of Siracusa, in 1926 again TOGO for Luigi Zonza of Porto Santo Stefano, engined with a diesel motor in 1938, requisitioned by the Regia Marina at Porto Santo Stefano on 22.10.1940 as the vedetta foranea V 135 for the Vigilanza foranea service,
Darius
Hi guys, thank you for your fast answers. A position naming was also in my opinion, when I was taking look for possibilities. But now it´s for sure. Is there a source for the naming of this and other positions? Or had we just to look through war daries or DEFE-files? Regards & :MG:Darius Edited February 25, 2020 by Darius
Platon Alexiades
Hello Darius and Francesco, I have not seen a document listing the Gena positions, possibly a line about 060° from Cape Mele, positions 15 miles apart for Gena 3 to 7? Just a guess! All the best, Platon
