Platon Alexiades
Hello, Can anyone tell me whatever happened to the wreck of the torpedo boat Sirtori which was scuttled near Corfu in September 1943 (after being beached on Lazareto Island near Corfu)? Was the wreck broken up? Any photo of the wreck? Many thanks, Platon

Platon Alexiades
Dear Francesco, Many thanks for the quick answer and thanks also to Dimitris Galon. I have been informed that a wreck has been located near Corfu of a warship which seems to be the size of Sirtori. I was wondering if she had been lost while being towed to a scrapyard or if it was absolutely certain that she was scrapped. One clue is that small guns appear to have been removed and if I am not wrong Sirtori's smaller guns were landed to be used in the defence of Corfu. All the best, Platon Corto Maltese
Francesco De Domenico
From the volume "La Marina dall'8 settembre 1943 alla fine del conflitto", USMM 1962: "In the evening of 13 September, shortly after a German air attack, the torpedo-boats SIRTORI (CO ten. vasc. Alessandro Senzi) and STOCCO (ten. vasc. Renato Lupi) reached the Corfu roads, sent in from Brindisi upon request from the Corfu CO to contribute with their weapons to the defense of the island. About 09.00 of 14 September, a mixed group of Ju 87s and Ju 88s set upon the town and the anchorage. 3 Ju87s targeted specifically the two TBs, at anchor 150 meters apart: SIRTORI took a direct hit by a bomb which perforated her hull and detonated under it, plus five near-misses which caused many leaks. The TB, listing heavily, was towed to the beach to the South of Lazzaretto Island and beached there. STOCCO was then ordered to leave the roads and cruised to the South of Corfu until the evening of the 14, when, having reached the limit of her endurance, she was ordered by Marina Brindisi to return, so as to be able to participate in the escort of the evacuation convoys between Santi Quaranta and Brindisi. (...) The island naval commander, cap. freg. c. Nicola Ostuni, with the navy personnel under him, and ten. vasc. Senzi with his crew, were able to leave Corfu aboard the few small craft still available, after having destroyed the hull of SIRTORI, reaching Otranto on 27 September. Francesco De Domenico
Platon Alexiades
Many thanks Franco for all the details. Would you have any information on a warship the size of a torpedo boat which could have been lost near Corfu harbour? I do not seem to find any. Perhaps in 1914-1918? Best wishes, Platon
Francesco Mattesini
Platon Alexiades
Thanks again to Francesco and Franco. The sinking of Proussa is duly noted. As Franco mentioned it could not be the wreck of CONFIENZA neither could it ibe the wreck of FANTASSIN as I think she was lost near Fano. Napy
Hello to everybody, the PROUSSA anyway was salvaged by the italian and towed to Fiume in 1941 in order to verify the possibility to restore her. Eventually found not in order was decided to scrap her. Best Regards Marco Ghiglino
