Platon Alexiades
The schooner Sempre Avanti (135 GRT, 1904) was reported torpedoed and sunk by a submarine during a trip from Trapani to Pantelleria at 2020/5.5.1943. No allied submarine has claimed such a sinking. Could she have been mined and if so on which minefield? Can anyone supply the position of the sinking? The crew was reported saved so we should be able to know the approximate position. Many thanks. Platon
Francesco Mattesini
Platon Alexiades
Caro Francesco, Thanks, I know that but neither the book nor the Diario Supermarina gives any info on the position. If Sempre Avanti sailed from Trapani to Pantelleria by going around Marettimo then there is a possibility she was lost on a minefield by HMS Rorqual. If she followed the coastal route then this theory is incorrect. Best wishes, Platon
