Hello friends,

I´m looking for more data on the sinking of the italian hulk NERETVA ex TIVAT ex KAISER MAX on 23.09.1941 in Sebinico/Sibenik.

Some sources put german bombers as the attacker.

Do you have any additions to this incident?

Regards

Darius

P.S.: I´m occasionelly collecting data on friendly fire in War at Sea in WW2 - if you have any additions, please let me know.

Erminio Bagnasco wrote on naviearmatori.net  in June, 2017 that she was renamed SAN MARCO ex NERETVA ex TIVAT, and used as a barracks ship until September 1943 at Sebenico: there is also a spring 1942  photo by Aldo Fraccaroli there.

However, no information on her fate  after the German forces took Sebenico without bloodletting on 11 September 1943 is known, and it seems unlikely to me that a Luftwaffe air attack took place. The Ufficio Storico volume "La Marina dall'8 settembre 1943 alla fine del conflitto" (1962 edition by amm. Giuseppe Fioravanzo) only mentions some acts of sabotage on some of the few naval units in harbour at the time: MAS 430 of 7a Squadriglia MAS, minelayer PASMAN, 3 motobarche, one motor-schooner (motoveliero) of 10a Squadriglia Dragaggio Ravvicinato, all of which fell into German hands.
