Heinrich Lehmann-Willenbrock).Dalle sue memorie scrisse il romanzo Das Boot (1973, in italiano U 96, in nuova traduzione da il Saggiatore col titolo Uboot). Dal libro fu tratto il film Das Boot (1981) che è IMHO il miglior film di sommergibili dai Lumiere.
