The former mine-layers ALBONA and ROVIGNO captured by the Germans as Netztender NT 57 and NT 56 respectively, were scuttled by them in Salonica during their retreat in late October 1944.

ALBONA was refloated by the Shipwreck Salvage Organization (O.A.N.) and was sold in November 1947 to Captain Fotios Kalyvas, who renamed her after his son Tilemachos and rebuild as a cargo motor ship. Attached you will find a photo of the ship, while under repair in Salonica in March 1948, along with two more photos of ΤILEMACHOS taken in 1952, all kindly provided by Captain Tilemachos Kalyvas.

In order to differentiate the ship the letter "K." (stood for Kalyvas) was written on the hull, but not mentioned in the official register files.
I translate the following from the Greek book "Salvaging History" regarding her final fate:

"In 1962 she was sold to I. Kondylis & Co and renamed MYRTIDIOTISSA. On June 5, 1966 the small cargo ship was sailing from Paros to Piraeus with a cargo of 100 tons of marble, when she collided with another motorship [MIRANDA] causing her to sunk in the strait of Makronisos-Kea."

Regarding ROVIGNO, she was also raised by O.A.N. and sold in 1949 to Lemberos Bros. She was renamed ICAROS and was rebuild as a 118-grt cargo motorship. She survived at least until 1986 but her final demise is not mentioned in the Greek registers and any information is most welcomed.
