A quanto pare dovrebbero essere sostituite da due nuove FREMM-EVO già in costruzione, che porteranno i nomi di BERSAGLIERE ed AVIERE, che dovrebbero essere pronte in concomitanza con la cessione alla Grecia nel 2028 e nel 2029.. Solo che "si era capito" che si trattava di due unità aggiuntive alla flotta e non sostitutive. Si scontano i problemi di arruolamento della Marina, congiunti con le difficoltà di bilancio.
